Kara no Kyoukai episode 1 Review

At first, viewers who hadn’t been read the novel will be confused with the plot. But, I’m sure that they will enjoy the kara no kyoukai episode 1. This first movie, to alternate with the notion of episode, is a smooth entry into this garden of sinners.

Recently, I have been feeling so frustrated in anime. Generally, we had lame plots, very predictable events, standard art styles, characters cliché, etc.

It feels like no one is pushing the envelope anymore, and the truly outstanding anime shows are coming fewer and farther between.

Fortunately, I came across this Garden of Sinners episode 1, and I was kind of satisfied! Kara no Kyokai anime series a collection of supposedly unrelated stories told in different timelines.

Kara no Kyoukai 1 Story

Kara no Kyoukai 1 Story

Teenage girls commit suicide by throwing themselves into the void from the roof of a building abandoned for years. As the victims had no connection between them, and did not leave any letters, the police could not find an explanation.

Ryougi Shiki is a young woman working in a kind of investigative agency with her friend Mikiya Kokutou and under the tutelage of Touko Aozaki.

Shiki thinks of the possibility of a paranormal reasons, because those girls don’t have initially the intention of committing suicide.

Shiki decides to go there after seeing a message on her phone. She arrives just as another young girl crashes onto the sidewalk behind her.

Deciding to check what may be the cause, Shiki enters the building but finds herself faced with something unexpected.

Shiki Ryougi has the supernatural ability to see death or rather, she can see the lines of death connected to all living things. We see her struggling with her double personality, conflicting desires, loneliness, and the burden of carrying a frightening power and its insatiable desire to kill.

The story is told non-sequentially, which I thought was absolutely brilliant because we see the action first, but then we are also given the reasons why those actions were taken, and why the harder options were chosen.

The story is also a supernatural mystery, with supposedly random and enigmatic murders committed by these truly psychopathic villains, it’s not a traditional mystery where you have to figure out who is the killer.

This is more of a mystery thriller anime where you have some deep doubts about the main character, Ryougi Shiki, and her mental state. Is she a killer or not?

This aspect is particularly enjoyable because it adds a psychological layer to the already awesomeness of this movie.

Kara no Kyoukai 1 Characters

kara no kyoukai 1

The main cast of characters for this Kara no Kyoukai 1 is tiny, however, the interactions between them is fantastic

We have Ryougi Shiki, the main protagonist. She is a strong, reserved, conflicted and very pernicious young woman.

We have Mikiya Kokutou, Shiki’s friend and the male lead character. He is very clever, kind and sympathetic not that strong, but he manages to provide a very helpful and supportive role for Shiki.

And finally we have Aozaki Touko, the boss-lady, the leader of the trio and also somewhat surrogate mother for both Shiki and Mikiya.

Aozaki is the very relaxed, chilled out brains behind the operation. Very smart and very well connected, she has her fingers in everything and every project.

She can figure things out very quickly and anticipate their outcomes. But for all that smartness, she can be pretty loose and irresponsible at times.

Top 10 Mystery Thriller Anime That Will Blow Your Mind

Kara no Kyoukai 1 Visuals & Animation

The Kara no Kyoukai episode 1 was visually very dark, which matched the overall tone of the story. When a story, whether it is a TV show, a movie film or an anime series, is dark, it tends to be much more serious and captivating.

From the first few minutes of Kara no Kyoukai 1, I had the impression that it would be a great movie because it was dark.

The buildings looked grimy, the sky was grey and sometimes even black as bitumen, the street lights and the passageways were darkly enlightened.

As a matter of fact, this kara no kyoukai fukan fuukei was very good at balancing between dimness and illumination.

The action scenes were all out breathtaking and definitely the highlight of the Kara no Kyoukai Overlooking View. Every detail was drawn carefully, movements were very fluid, the uses of angles, 360-rotations, perspectives, slow-motion and blur effects, etc.

Kara no Kyoukai 1 Music & OST

The Kara no Kyoukai 1 Music was amazing as well. However, it was the music of the action scenes that really stole the show. It made the battles even more epic, more prestigious and more dramatic. It perfectly fits the scenes and made the fights seem more like a dance of death.
